So, as Trina mentioned in the earlier post, we're starting these series of ..posts called " Momentary Recognition". Stuff we like/dont like/recommendations . Standard stuff .
I , personally would never blog about music because..i'm absolutely horrible that way. But , i will blog about Malaysian Music because you people are waaay to judgmental and ignorant towards the really good talent we have . ( yes , here in Malaysia).
But not today. I'm going to blog about THINKING GREEN. It's important la. Seriously.
"We didn’t inherit the Earth from our parents. We are borrowing it from our children"
So yeah , WHY should you care about the earth? I used to think it wasn’t my responsibility, nor was it my concern . Boy was I wrong. I was watching Oprah one fateful day , and it was the “ Going Green” episode. They showed a video of this polar bear that dug a hole for itself to die in because their habitats are under increasing threat as a consequence of the dramatic thinning of the Arctic sea ice.
I cried for about 2 days( I really like polar bears you see ) and decided I’m not going to mope around and NOT do anything. Why is recycling important ? So people don't waste so many resources that one day we might not have any more if we keep using so many of them.
It’s absolutely stupid to NOT want to preserve the earth. For yourself , for your children and their children. It doesn’t take a lot . No one is forcing you to buy a Hybrid ( which costs a bloody bomb here btw ) or build an eco-friendly house. Baby steps people, baby steps.
All it takes is for each of us to do our part. It can be as simple as recycling or changing a light bulb. Or using your car less and walking or cycling more. No matter what you do, when you reduce carbon emissions, you are making a big difference in the health of our planet.
I , personally have stopped leaving the A/C on when I leave my house , and I’ve started collecting glass bottles/papers/tin cans to recycle. I have a couple of energy-saving bulbs too. ( Thank you parents :D )
So..how do YOU help ?
1. Stop wasting water. When you brush your teeth/wash dishes don’t leave the water running!
2. Try not to use plastic bags so much . I know it’s kinda inconvenient to carry around a bunch of eco-friendly bags . But..try minimizing the use of plastic bags.
3. Bring your own containers instead of “tapao-ing” with Styrofoam containers.
4. RECYLE , RECYLE , RECYLE. ( newspapers/papers/aluminum cans/glass bottles)
- You can send recyclables to a disabled home in SS2, PJ. They collect recyclables to sell in order to earn money to run the home. There's a drop in box at their centre :
Lovely Disabled Home No 1, Jalan SS 2/5, (opposite Taman Bahagia LRT station) 47300 Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia. Contact :78739622
2. MPPJ Carpark,Jalan 10/7, Off Jalan Gasing, PJ. Saturdays and Sundays 5:30 pm to 7 pm ( you get paid for recycling here! )
There’s not many pictures or any visuals to “ attract” you to read. So yeah , whatever . This may be a joke / waste of time to many of you , so your loss (: No one`s forcing you as i said.
Nicole Shin watched the exact same Oprah ep sometime last year ( fckin Astro , repeats everything ). She blogged about it too (: CLICK HERE TO READ.
